THE IMPORTANCE OF SPIRITUALITY
The spiritual wing of Middlefield Centre provides opportunities and events to promote the spiritual transformation of devotees. The spiritual coordinator facilitates bhajans, study circles, and other events that encourage spiritual transformation and set devotees on the path toward enlightenment. Swami’s teachings and values are at the core of every activity held by the spiritual wing and is also principal motivation behind each activity.
“You think that worldly life and spiritual life are separate entities. They are not. Spirituality is awareness. It is total knowledge and not pieces or bits of information. You should always talk sweetly and softly. You can please everyone with your fine talk. See, when a crow sits on the wall repeating kav, kav we chase it away, but when a cuckoo repeats kuhu, kuhu, you too start imitating its sweet sound. Both are birds, but where does the difference lie? It is only the sound, you see! Similarly your talk makes all the difference. The crow has not harmed you in the least, nor has the cuckoo rendered any help to you. It is only the sound that pleases or displeases you. You should speak the truth, you should talk pleasingly. You cannot always oblige, but you can speak obligingly. Is it not? Your words should never hurt or harm anyone.”
– Sri Sathya Sai Baba

“Spirituality is very essential for awareness. It is impossible to develop awareness by any other means. With a spiritual background, things will be very clear to you. You will then have total understanding, which is awareness. Otherwise, what you acquire is bookish knowledge, superficial knowledge, general knowledge but not practical knowledge, which is awareness. This is possible only in the spiritual path.”
– Sri Sathya Sai Baba

CENTRE ACTIVITIES
There are several spiritual activities that take place on a regular basis at Middlefied Sai Center. Every Friday evenings at 7.30pm there are bhajans and devotional singing. These sessions allow devotees to gather together and sing the glory of God, thus uplifting and enhancing the atmosphere. For detailed bhajan guidelines as explained by Swami, see devotional singing section. Bhajans and devotional singing take place every Friday evening at 7.30 PM. The 2nd Friday of every month is reserved for study circles. Study circles allow devotees the opportunity to read Sai Literature and contemplate on the teachings within the literature in an open discussion with fellow devotees. Every month a different topic is explored and studied. Through study circles, devotees can better understand Swami’s teachings and progress spiritually. At Middlefield Sai Centre, we celebrate special events and auspicious occasions of different cultures and religions. Through these celebrations, we can grow spiritually and work toward the ultimate goal of Self-realization.
